My African Inspiration

When I reflect on where my love for animals and art began, my grandmother is the first, and most amazing person that comes to mind. I remember sitting with her in her cosy little wooden art studio, watching her create truly incredible oil paintings. I always knew this was the place she loved the most, her sanctuary. She was so incredibly talented, and a true inspiration to me. Because of her my love for art grew, as well as my love for African wildlife.

If there was a tiny fledgling in need, she would nurse it back to health. If there was a bird she loved, she would listen to it’s call over and over again on one of the many cassettes she had, devoted entirely to bird calls.

Although she loved all wildlife, birds definitely held a special place in her heart. And then there was her love for photography. Her trusty old Kodak film camera was never far out of reach, always ready to capture whatever may have caught her fancy.

She loved all creatures. She loved her art. She loved her family. I truly do credit her for the path my life took in that regard. The love I have for wildlife spilled over into my passion for art and photography, and for this I will be eternally grateful to her. An amazing woman who is never far from my thoughts.
